School Values at Tamaki Primary School

We have been learning about the 5 School Values we have at Tamaki Primary school. They are:

Ako; Teaching and Learning

Manaakitanga; Kindness
Mana Tangata; Respect
Kaitiakitanga; Gaurdianship, Looking after environment and people
Whanaungatanga; Positive Relationships

Today, we had a buddy time to share our learning with our buddy class, Room 8. In groups, we talked about what the school values are, how to show the school values, and gave examples of showing school values in our behaviour.

With our Buddy Class, Room 8 we joined in one of the 5 groups. In each group we talked about what we LEARNT about our School Values, we CREATED a poster for each School Value, and then videoed our ideas to make a movie to be SHARED at the school assembly.

Here is our movie.

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2019 - WITS

Earlier this year, we learnt about self-help skills.  We learnt how to look after our body as well as our emotions.  We learnt to use 4 specific strategies to help us when things are not working out for us.
That is WITS: Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out, Seek help!
Sit down, relax and listen to our WITS song we learnt about in Room 1.

Big 4

We have been learning about another PB4L lesson this week.
We have learnt that PB4L means Positive Behaviour for Learning.
In Room 1, this week we learnt about the Big 4 in our corridors.  By doing the Big 4, we show respect to the learners in other classrooms, which is our school value Manaakitanaga.

Here is the Big 4 movie we made to show you what it means.

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2018 - The Ants Go Marching!

The lovely students in Room 1 at Tamaki Primary enjoy learning through play and fun games.  This movie is about one of the ways we have been learning counting our numbers from 1 to 10.

We needed to make our own ant hats for marching as ants in the movie.  Filming each section marching in different numbers was not that easy in the wind as the ant hats kept getting blown away but it was lots of fun trying to catch them and secure them back on the head.  We shared both frustrations and laughter.  Everyone in Room 1 had a great input especially the little one.  We thought it was fair for a different student to be the flag-bearer or drummer leading the ants marching along.

We kept practising and singing so much that the tune was still stuck in our head for days after the filming was done.

We had fun counting 1to 10, each time repeating the song and adding one more.  Hope you also enjoy using anything around in your environment to count your numbers.

Come and march along with us as we count 1-10

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2017 - The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly!

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.

Why would anyone swallow a fly? Do you know why?

Maybe Room 1 could tell you why the old lady swallowed a fly...
