Where is Leilani?

The book we read in our online class today was called 'Where is Sam?' and the sight word we learnt to read and write from this book was 'Here'.

Leilani, you made your own book using the same pattern this afternoon but I love your version of the book, "Where is Leilani?" much better.

I can see how hard you have tried to write all the sentences in your book using the same sentence pattern of saying "Here is Leilani's ... ." and the question "Where is Leilani?"
What a fantastic and fluent reading! Great Ako, Leilani. Ka pai.
Your lovely mum, Tara, has been a fantastic teacher at home supporting you with your learning. She is a STAR, isn't she?

Here is the reading lesson from today's class for the book "Where is Sam?"

Mother's Day Card

Here is Leilani's card she made for her lovely mum for Mother's Day on Sunday.
She followed the instructional video on her Explain Everything Writing lesson for today and created this beautiful card and wrote her message inside.

Thanks Leilani for letting me take a photo of you with your card through our Hangout online lesson as we wanted to keep it quiet from mum so she would be surprised on Sunday.

I am very proud of you showing your school value of Manaakitanga to your mum and making her happy.
Ka pai.

Leilani's Maths Problem Solving

It has been a few days now that we have been learning to add up numbers by tally marking.

This was today's Maths problem.

Here is how Leilani used her Tally Marking knowledge to solve the above problem. She showed two groups of 5 using tally marks and another group of 3 and counted them together: 5 + 5 + 3 = 13
Ka pai, Leilani. That was a quick way of counting two groups of 5 and then adding another 3.

Ana's Nature Scavenger Hunt

Today, in our Writing lesson, we were supposed to go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt. We had a list of living and non-living things to use as a guide. We needed to go outside, look for any of these in the nature, draw a picture of them, write their name down and read them out to someone at home.

This is the Nature Scavenger Hunt list from our Writing lesson.

This is Ana's Nature Scavenger Hunt picture collage and her drawing and writing in her book. Well done, Ana. This is fantastic. I am glad that you enjoyed your scavenger hunt with your lovely mum and little sister, Leina as I heard in our second hangout session today. You told me that you could find nearly everything on the list except the butterfly, water and fern.

Can you tell what each picture is showing?

My Bird Feeder

Kia ora Leilani,
What an enthusiastic and confident learner you are. You have been joining in our online classes nearly every day. You pay great attention and try your best. This week we have been learning about creatures in our natural environment like insects and birds. We have been learning how to care for them. You showed a wooden bird house you already had at home. We decided to make a bird feeder. In our Inquiry lesson yesterday, we learnt how to make a bird feeder out of juice or milk carton and water or milk bottle. I showed you my bird feeder.

 Mrs Jalili's bird feeder

Today, you not only made your own bird feeder explaining the process so well but also completed your writing task. You even reminded us that we need to always start our sentence with a Capital or Uppercase letter, and put a Full Stop at the end of our sentence.

You have shown a great example of how Manaiakalani pedagogy of "Learn", "Create", "Share" puts you at the very centre of your own learning.  I am very proud of you. Keep up your great learning. Ka pai.

Leilani's Birthday Message

Leilani, this is a Birthday message you wrote to your dad for his birthday. What a great gift to dad to see your neat writing with all the love hearts showing your Manaakitanga to him.

I learnt a new Maori word from you, Leilani. That is "heke" in Maori for "egg". It must have been a very special birthday breakfast for your dad!

Leilani's writing on first day of Home Learning

It was our first day of online schooling, learning from home.

Leilani, thank you so much for joining us on our class hangout meet, patiently listening to your teacher, showing passion and interest in learning from home. It was fantastic; and more rewarding was to see your lovely writing and reading it to me at our second hangout meet. Ka pai, Leilani. 👏
Thanks for sharing your learning today. Keep up the great work you are doing. 😊
